The Exhibition of Treasures - Festival Installation
This installation is an extension of my 'Possessions' project, viewable here.
At each festival, I give people their own small canvas and invite them to write or draw about their most prized possession (things which can't be upgraded or replaced, and not including people or pets).
Throughout the festival the exhibition grows. The treasured objects people choose to share often reveal stories about their keepers as well as about human nature as a whole. It is great to watch the installation become a hub for so many conversations and see how it provokes strangers to talk intimately about their lives.
All elements are made from repurposed materials – surplus/rejected frames from framers and canvas from sailmakers' offcuts.
The installation works well in wooded areas but can easily be adapted to any setting. The footprint can also be easily adapted to fit the space.
